About Those Walks!

Well, my people have been at it again - trying to walk me like a common dog. Who do they think they're dealing with? Don't they know I only go when I want to go, and where I choose? They always seem to want me to take a particular path, but that's just not the CAT WAY, so I make it difficult for them by lying down and rolling in the grass, gravel, or wherever I've chosen as the spot I want to sun myself. You should see them trying to straighten out my leash after I've had a good romp and roll!

They've also found out I can jump straight up and turn myself around in mid-air, and I can twist myself around picnic table legs like there's no tomorrow. Then while they're trying to get the kinks out of the leash, I cut loose and take off running for home. I love to see them sweat and get breathless chasing after me.

Maybe humans are impossible to train. They're still real cranky at 5:00 AM, but I'm patiently working on getting them up earlier. Someday, maybe they'll learn how to adapt to my demands . . .

Until next time, m-e-o-w!

Lovin' the Sun

Ah-h! Life is good for this RVin kitty!

The sun is shining, it's beautiful and warm outside, and I'm enjoying sunning myself on the dash. Who could ask for more?

I try to get my folks up early so they can watch the sun rise, but they're not cooperating. I say the early kitty gets the early bird that gets the worm. My people always say that if God had intended them to watch the sunrise, He would have scheduled it way later in the day. I'll keep jumping into the middle of them by 5 AM so they can watch the sunrise with me, no matter how much they protest. We'll see who wins this war of wits!

Life in the RV Park

It's been raining here for two days, so I haven't been out for my walk. I'm not sure yet whether I actually like to walk on a leash or not, but I've let my people know that I get to pick where we walk, and how fast or slow we go. If I want to sniff the grass or visit with a friendly dog, my people just have to follow along because that's the way it is!

After my new people took me in, they did everything they could think of to find my old people because they said I was probably much loved and missed. They put up signs and contacted the humane society, and they let all the staff in the RV park know that they had me in case my old people came back or called. Their efforts were futile, though. They seem happy to have me now, and I'm sure content (p-u-r-r-r).

My only bad experience since moving in with them was my visit to the Vet. Do you have any idea where they put that thermometer when they take a cat's temperature? Let me tell you, I was not happy. I let out a growl that made everyone in the room jump back except for the fool with the thermometer. She held her ground. She better not try that again, because I'll be ready for her next time and it won't be pretty!

Mostly, I'm sweet and adorable. I absolutely love to play, and my new people have given me lots of new toys to play with. I do get demanding about food, though, because I had to do without it for so long. I never want to be hungry again, so I get vocal if I can see the bottom of my food bowl. Otherwise, I'm happy and quiet.

Till next time, m-e-o-w . . .

Getting Ready to Roll

My new family is preparing to take a long trip by getting rid of extra weight that they've accumulated since they last traveled. I'm not worried, though. I know they are making plans to take me wherever they go because they've bought new toys for me. I think they would be lonesome without me, now, even though they say they weren't in the market for a new kitty. The few pounds I've gained in the month since I came to live with them doesn't seem to bother them at all. Yippee! It looks like I'm a keeper!

My people's last kitty lived to be almost 19 years old, and it would have been hard to find a replacement. They were so heartbroken they didn't even bother to look for a new kitty. In fact, they were thinking of maybe getting a little dog this time. Luckily for them and me, their neighbors in the RV park and I took matters into our own hands (or in my case, paws) and made sure they had a furry little footwarmer with an automatic motor to keep them company on long, cold nights.

We're leaving about the middle of March, and I'll be keeping you posted on where we travel and what we see along the way. Until next time, M-E-O-W...

My Story

I was born who knows where, and had a family that left me behind for some reason. I'll never know why I was abandoned, or even if they intended to abandon me. All I know is that one night I found myself alone and afraid in the cold, cruel world of the homeless. My people had me neutered and declawed, so I'm sure they wanted me - but sometimes things happen. I understand.

It's not easy being a black cat, even though I'm as handsome as can be. I'm friendly, lovable, and sweet. What's not to love? Still, I spent a couple of weeks wandering an RV park in hopes that my people would come back and find me. Often I had to hide out when I spotted the fox and the coyotes who would have gladly had me for lunch. It was cold and miserable outside as I searched for my family and food to keep me alive, all while looking over my bony shoulder while I ate what little birdseed I could locate on the ground. Then one day, I spotted a man with a large, friendly yellow lab, and he offered to feed me. Finally, I had found someone who cared.

Then, as the coyotes and fox zeroed in on me late one night, the nice man talked his neighbors into taking me in. I wouldn't have lasted much longer. If I had managed to avoid the wild animals, I would have soon frozen or starved to death.

So that's my story. I was one of the lucky cats. The Veterinarian says I'm about two years old (although I'm as playful as a kitten), and I'm healthy. Now I've gained weight, and my coat is as sleek and shiny as a new car. My new people plan to have me microchipped before we leave on a long trip so that if I ever get lost again, a simple scan can reconnect me with them.

To all my kitty buddies out there, make sure your people have you neutered so you don't prowl and produce more kitties, and tell them to have you microchipped. It's a simple procedure - much like a shot. And it doesn't cost much. Oh, and make sure they keep your shots up-to-date. Even though my new people didn't know by what I had already had my shots, they made sure I got them again. They want me to be healthy and happy. For that matter, that, plus a safe and warm place to sleep and food to eat is all I ask, too.
